We are a coalition of two women-led organizations – Initiative for Peace and Women’s Right in Africa (IPWR-A) and the Latiwa Development Foundation (LDF) that have provided entrepreneurial and personal development skills to women for over 10 years. In the DRC, we have partnered with the Kuvuna Foundation which is a youth-centered organization dedicated to empowering young people through leadership and entrepreneurship training.
The Build Her a Future (BHAF) project was launched to address the pervasive impact of gender inequality and economic disparities in the circular economy. This 5-year project, implemented in the target countries- Nigeria, Gambia, Togo and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), provides a rapid, large-scale and coordinated strategy for women’s empowerment through knowledge and skills transfer, enterprise sector management, personal development and access to finance and markets. Using technology, Build Her a Future empowers women in its key sectors namely waste management, renewable energy and precision and aggrotech management.
Since its launch on the 20th of March 2024, the project has successfully trained 40 women entrepreneurs in Nigeria and created access to markets for about 10 women in international fora. The project has hosted and contributed to discussions around attaining a more inclusive African economy with more women participating in the circular economy at local and international gatherings.
Following a successful launch in the DRC, the project is set to commence Awareness creation of over 30,000 women in urban and semi-urban areas of Kinshasa, Matadi, Kolwezi, Bukavu, Kisangani on the Build Her a Future key sector, expert and business sector management training, and establish Access to Funds and Markets.
The project envisions in 5 years, to impact 60,000 direct beneficiaries in the 4 target countries, 75% of whom are women and 25% women with disabilities. Our beneficiaries include young women (aged between 18 and 38). To achieve our objective, the project requires an estimated budget of $2,059,550.00 USD in the DRC and overall, 10 million for the 4 countries. We also require a great wealth of sector experts to support on the delivery of the project.
